Before starting my research on the new Braun Series 9 9090cc, I thought it couldn’t be much better than the Series 7 line, but now I can say with a certain amount of conviction that it is.
Braun shavers have always been quality products, but they were often put in the shade by more advanced and visually appealing products from their competitors, like the Panasonic ES-LV95-S, the ES-LV65-S, or the Philips Norelco 9700 Series S9721/84.
All the signs show that now, men who are looking to buy a high quality electric shaver, have an even more difficult task ahead than before, because the Braun 9090cc just joined the elite club of electric shavers.
What makes the 9090cc better than other shavers, and is it worth your consideration? Read on and find out as those are the exact questions that we decided to try and answer through this review.
Description of the Braun 9090cc
The first impression you get from the Braun 9090cc, once you get it out of the box, is a feeling of high quality. You would be surprised to learn that it’s made entirely of plastic, with a rubberized grip, so that the shaver doesn’t slip from your hands even if wet. The fact that it’s made in Germany probably has a lot to do with the high standards it’s manufactured at.
One of the most important aspects when it comes to electric shavers is the battery, namely battery life and charging time. If the razor’s battery will be empty when you get it, don’t worry, it will only take 60 minutes for a full charge. It will last about 50 minutes of cordless use. But if you can’t wait an hour to use it, you can charge it for around 5 minutes to be able to complete a cordless shave, or you can just shave while it charges. The display on the front of the shaver looks really nice and will always show battery levels, with a countdown of the last 9 minutes, so you know exactly how much time you have left to finish shaving.
Being a high end electric shaver, it also comes with a cleaning and charging station. The main purpose of the station is cleaning, a process that will last about 5 minutes. But if you want to charge the battery as
well, in about an hour your shaver will be fully charged, shiny, lubricated and with a nice smell. You only need to change the cleaning liquid (it’s highly recommended you stick with original Braun cleaning liquid) from time to time, but apart from this, it’s a tremendous advantage without the need of extensive maintenance.
The Braun Series 9 9090cc makes use of the so-called SyncroSonic Technology. It’s comprised of 4 elements:
- Intelligent sonic technology with 40,000 cross-cutting actions powered by sonic micro-vibrations which aides in the removal of more hair;
- Direct&Cut Trimmer aligns and cuts hair growing in different directions;
- HyperLift&Cut Trimmer lifts and cuts flat-lying hairs from problem areas like the neck and chin area;
- 2x OptiFoil for the perfect finish, closer than any other shaver.
How does shaving with the Braun 9090cc feel?
If you want the short answer, it’s: great. But you probably want more than that. Have no fear, more details are coming your way.
Usually with electric shavers the big problem is that they’re just not close enough. Truth be told, if you want that baby-face shave, then you’re probably going to have to stick with a traditional wet shaving ritual. But by all matters, the Braun 9090cc does an incredible job shaving as close as probably 2-3 other electric razors available on the market right now. So, it’s probably safe to say that it’s one of the closest shaves you can get with an electric shaver today.
Using it daily is very comfortable. Many electric shavers need a little getting used to before you can truly enjoy the shave. The 9090cc didn’t cause any skin irritation, but that’s not a guarantee that it will not cause you a bit in the beginning. It depends from one person to another, that’s why it’s so hard to say that an electric shaver or another causes skin irritation. Some people get skin irritation from foil shavers, some from rotary shavers, and some don’t go through any bad experiences whatsoever using both types.
If you have a longer beard, the built-in trimmer can come in handy. You just have to slide it out, and then you can easily remove the excess hair before shaving. There are better ways to trim your beard, but for the purpose it was added, it’s honorably getting the job done. Many men make the mistake of buying an electric shaver thinking they could also maintain a stubble. While this is somewhat possible, you should always get a beard trimmer if you decide to grow a stubble, because they’re just better tools for the job.
